David
Paul is
an accomplished violinist, pianist, composer, arranger and teacher. After completing a B.A. at St. Olaf College (Phi Beta Kappa) and a
M.M. in orchestral studies at Rice University (Full Graduate Fellowship),
Mr. Paul played first violin in the Jacksonville Florida Symphony for seven
years.
He was introduced to Tai'
Chi Gung with
Rasaji and began practicing faithfully.
Doing Tai' Chi Gung: Tai' (life) Chi (energy)
Gung (body) brings profound awareness, vitality and regeneration to
the different systems of the body, mind and spirit. Consistent
practice heightens creativity for any person in any discipline, but
especially for performing artists.
Mr. Paul's introduction to Tai' Chi Gung quickly
led to an interest in many diverse musical styles. He is called into
the recording studio by artists on a regular basis who are writing in
classical, folk, rock, jazz, blue grass and Celtic musical traditions.
His original work is profoundly soothing, and
his mastery of improvisation from many musical styles makes his solo
appearances incredibly satisfying.

Private Violin and
Piano Lessons |
|
David Paul has been
teaching private music lessons for more than 18 years. He brings a truly rare
combination to his teaching approach. He has more than 21 years experience
and training as a professional classical musician and over 21 years of daily
practice in the ancient regenerative art of Tai’ Chi Gung.
Classical Training
As a classical musician, he studied
both violin and piano at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN where he finished
a Bachelors Degree in violin performance. He led the orchestra as
their concertmaster, and was chosen as a tour soloist performing the
Sibelius Violin Concerto. He graduated with departmental distinction
and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
He went on to complete a Masters
Degree in orchestral studies at Rice University in Houston, TX
studying with Ruben Gonzalez, the Concertmaster of the Houston and the
Chicago Symphony. Mr. Paul attended Rice with a full graduate
fellowship as a member of the honors string quartet and served as
Maestro Gonzalez’s graduate teaching assistant.
Following graduation, he joined the
Jacksonville Symphony as a first violinist where he played full time
for seven years. During his tenure there, he appeared as a soloist
with the orchestra twice, and played the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto
as a guest soloist with the Brunswick Civic Orchestra.
Music and Tai’ Chi Gung
He was introduced to Rasaji six
months into his first year as a symphony violinist when he attended
his Tai’ Chi Gung class. What began as a simple search for stress
relief grew into a passionate pursuit of regenerative health and
longevity. Doing Tai’ Chi Gung transformed David’s musical life.
Mr. Paul soon expanded
his interest into other styles of music, composition and improvising.
Over the past 21 years pursuing Tai’ Chi Gung and applying its
principles to music, he has developed an uncommon versatility.
He has command of classical, pop, jazz, Celtic, bluegrass and folk
styles, and he is able to teach the fundamentals of all these
different styles in his private lessons.
Music Lessons with Mr. Paul
Students have
the choice to learn more than one style of music. They can learn
to play by ear and read music at the same time. They are encourage to
improvise from the beginning of their studies. Mr. Paul learned both
traditional and Suzuki methods growing up, so he adjusts the
curriculum of each student according to their strengths and allows
them to grow at their own pace. His gentle patient demeanor is a
welcome contrast to high pressure classes that often intimidate and
discourage children and adult students alike. Lessons can be
fun!

"David Paul has been
sharing his music program with children at the Center for the past four
years. He is an outstanding teacher and the children always look forward to
his program. He understands how to communicate ideas, concepts and
objectives in a playful atmosphere. This is critically important for the
children. It is a key component to effective learning. With a positive, fun
filled atmosphere, children learn more. In his class they master concepts
related not only to music and singing, but they also learn principles of
phonics, spelling, mathematics, spatial reasoning, eye hand coordination,
physical fitness, balance and coordination. Moreover, his soft, gentle yet
firm approach is a powerfully effective approach to classroom management. I
would gladly recommend his program. He's great with the kids, they love
him." Pamela C. Bell,

For Adults: Tai' Chi Gung and Music |
|
A Seminar with David Paul |
|
Learn to apply the principles of
Tai’ Chi Gung, a 3000 year old
Tibetan system of energy, health and regeneration to music.
Mr. Paul began studying
Tai' Chi Gung with
Rasaji over 22 years ago when he was a
first violinist with the Jacksonville Symphony. Rasaji lived and
trained at the original school of Tai' Chi Gung in Tibet under Bo-Yang,
the current world authority. The Tai' Chi Gung system Rasaji
shares is from the original teacher. It comes to us in a 3000 year
unbroken lineage shared from teacher to student.
In the seminar with David
Paul, you will learn the same system of Tai' Chi Gung he is practicing,
and how to apply these concepts and principles to music.
